where & How DTMF details in my contact details used?
Q. Hi, In my N73, i see that I can add "DTMF" details to each contact. I would like to know where and how this DTMF info is used? I understand DTMF is used for identifing which key was pressed, please tell me some use cases. Thanks, San

A. You are right, DTMF (Dual-tone multi-frequency ) is used on touch tome phones to identify the key pressed, one tone for "vertical" column, another tone for "horizontal" row. Your (Nokia) N73 has a feature which allows you to store a series of such tones, representing key strokes. Now why would you need that...? I give you a few examples: a) You always (say) call different numbers in ShenZhen China, and you are "too lazy" to always dial 011 86 755 before the actual number. You can store that sequence. b) You control your home security system over the phone from anywhere. After you call the dial-in number, you need to enter a password, and then you enter another sequence which turns on your driveway lights. You can store those key… [cont.]

My phone has FSK and in India it has to have DTMF to get caller ID. What do I do?
Q. In India the land line telephones ought to have DTMF to get caller ID's.My phone purchased in USA has FSK.
Asked by Kumaran R - Tue May 30 00:23:01 2006 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Interesting that they aren't compatible, but then again, in telecom, USA usually doesn't follow anyone. There isn't any easy conversion to do. Designing such a circuit is a real pain, not something I would attempt unless I had a spare month or so to waste. You will have to sell / give your phone to someone going to USA, and buy a new one made for India's standard. I am curious, do you know the name of the standard in India?

Q. I have a desktop and a laptop that both run Windows XP home edition with service pack 2. A. Does it go IN all the way? Does it light up? (did it on the laptop?) Try a different port. You see, the USB ports in the front of many desktops just don't have the room around the USB plug to allow some devices to be plugged in. I've seen this with Compaq, Dell and HP. Try one of the ports in the BACK, since there is no cover that gets in the way. Good luck and Happy Computing!

A. What exactly are you trying to do? How would you convert DTMF to FSK? FSK in Baudot code or what? I've never heard of anyone converting touchtone signaling to frequency shift keying. Not knowing what the application is, I think you could make something work with a sound card interface. Others have had no problems writing modules which encode and decode DTMF signaling, and the same goes for FSK and I've seen speeds up to 9k6 using a sound card interface although I can't imagine any touchtone signalling requiring that high of a bit rate.

A. Dual Tone Multi Frequency it is the touch tone sounds... the option is likely short or long... you can normally leave it set to short, but if you notice when you dial into an automated system that your touch tones are not being sent properly, then you can set it to long... other options that I have seen on cell phones is the option to allow DTMF tones to be sent in call or not... if you enable this you will be able to send touch tone signals after making a call (to check voice mail, call an automated system, etc) if you disable this the phone will ignore and not send any touch tone signals while in call... if this is the option you are talking about on your phone, then I would leave it enabled...

A. Also known as: Dual Tone Multi-Frequency Dual Tone Multi-Frequency (DTMF), also known as 'Touchtone', is the type of signalling now used by all modern telephony equipment. DTMF is the name given to the system of audible tones generated by a user when dialling numbers on a telephone, and DTMF phones usually have 12 keys (i.e. the ten decimal digits plus the symbols '#' and '*'). Each phone key generates a different pair of audible frequencies - one high and one low frequency, so that they cannot be imitated by a voice - which explains the term 'Dual Tone'. At the exchange or receiving equipment these tones are then decoded, to determine which keys had been pressed. In addition to their use for dialling, these tones are also used to… [cont.]

A. It is Dual Tone MultiFrequency, also known as a Touch Tone. The tones generated by touching the keys on the phone are used for a variety of purposes including voice mail systems and voice messaging. when u call an automated service and a voice responds "press 1 for menu, 2 for operator", ur key press signal is transmitted because of DTMF.

Q. Whats the difference between Inband and Outband DTMF?
Asked by HITMAN 25 - Thu Nov 1 08:19:45 2007 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Inband means that the tone is transmitted in the audio stream. Sometimes that means blocking voice to send the tone or it may mean mixing the tone into the existing voice stream. Outband means sending telephone keypad tones in any manner except in the voice channel. This often means that an IP phone or multimedia client sends a tone message using a signaling protocol. If this message can reach all the way to the listener, the listening device can generate that tone at their end or simply know that that key was "pressed". If the tone "message" has to go through something like a PSTN gateway (to the public phone network), the gateway has to decode the voice channel, generate the specified tone, blend the two together, then encode the… [cont.]

Since the cell phone is partially a mini computer too, it was trying to interprute the fax signal. LOL no charges here either, just annoyed the customer to the point she changed her phone number. Your phone does have the ability to block all Private calls... however, since your customers also have private numbers, they will be blocked as well... I'm sorry. You can change your number.
