Digital Signal 1 Information

Digital signal 1 (DS1, also known as T1, sometimes "DS-1") is a T-carrier signaling scheme devised by Bell Labs. DS1 is a widely used standard in telecommunications in North America and Japan to transmit voice and data between devices. E1 is used in place of T1 outside of North America, Japan, and South Korea. Technically, DS1 is the logical bit pattern used over a physical T1 line; however, the terms "DS1" and "T1" are often used interchangeably.

Bandwidth

A DS1 circuit is made up of twenty-four 8-bit channels (also known as timeslots or DS0s), each channel being a 64 kbit/s DS0 multiplexed carrier circuit. A DS1 is also a full-duplex circuit, which means the circuit transmits and receives 1.544 Mbit/s concurrently. A total of 1.536 Mbit/s of bandwidth is achieved by sampling each of the twenty-four 8-bit DS0s 8000 times per second. This sampling is referred to as 8-kHz sampling (See Pulse-code modulation). An additional 8 kbit/s of overhead is obtained from the placement of one framing bit, for a total of 1.544 Mbit/s, calculated as follows:

Why do I occasionally lose the signal to CBS (Channel 2.1) even though it was on a TV with a digital tuner?
Q. The TV was digital ready. We also got an amplified antenna for the TV. But still we are getting lost signals or snowball. We live in Chicago, IL, about 12 miles away from the CBS 2 headquarters downtown. Are a lot of people in Chicago complaining that they cannot get Channel 2 on their new TVs even after the DTV thing happened?

Digital 5.1 to Analog 5.1?
Q. I have a Sony Blu-Ray player that only outputs digital signals for sound. I have an older (10year) sround sound system that still kicks it. The only problem is that it only accepts analog 5.1. What can I do? I'm NOT getting rid of this older system, because we just grabbed a BOSE system that was marked down 50% from target (From $500). I'm VERY disappointed with it and will be sending it back. My older system just whipped it butt.

A. A DAC (Digital to Analog Converter) will output analog. nothing really sounds worse than BOSE.

I just don't understand the switch from digital to analog?
Q. It s been on the news forever now and they have even extended the deadline to June 2009, TV stations across America will cease to broadcast in analog to digital. They give me all the information I need to know such as how to get ready for the switch, how to get the coupon and so on. But I don't want this information, for some of us; we WANT more info for example the technical info. I've been researching for a few hours trying to figure out what is actually happening. They say that TV stations across America will cease to broadcast with an analog signal and will do so with a digital one, however I've learned that there is no such thing. TV stations broadcast with UHF and VHF signals and that will remain unchanged during the switch...so… [cont.]
