Communication is a process of transferring information from one source to another. Communication processes are sign-mediated interactions between at least two agents which share a repertoire of signs and semiotic rules. Communication is commonly defined as "the imparting or interchange of thoughts, opinions, or information by speech, writing, or signs". Communication can be perceived as a two-way process in which there is an exchange and progression of thoughts, feelings or ideas towards a mutually accepted goal or direction.

Communication as an academic discipline has a long history.

What schools offer good communications/marketing programs?
Q. I'm a high school junior looking into schools in Ohio, Indiana, Pennsylvania, New York, West Virginia, or Kentucky. I would like to have a career working with professional sports teams in areas of marketing, communications, event planning, and possibly advertising. I would like to major in communications or marketing, but I'm not sure which schools offer the best programs.

A. You didn't mention New Jersey, However... Rutgers University, in New Brunswick NJ has ALL of the majors you had mentioned. It has every single program possible because of it's hugeness--and it has SO MANY opportunities for students! The athletic department is closely tied with our marketing, advertising and communications departments. Rutgers is one of the top schools for business (marketing/advertising) and one of the leading schools for communication! I just want to stress the flexibility and opportunities this school offers, it's important to recognize you may really have ALL the options to you here, without ever having to transfer!

What is the best university/college for graphic design or visual communications in or near Ky?
Q. I am wanting to study graphic design / visual communications but have no Idea which college/university to attend. I live in ky and so the college/university needs to be in or in a surrounding state.

A. The Art Institute is a great school. I don't think there is one in KY. There is one in Cincinnati Ohio, and one in Indianapolis Indiana. My daughter is going to AI in the fall and with all of the research we have done it seems to be an amazing school for graphic design. Great choice for a career and good luck!

Q. How is the cobra idl used to support communications between objects that have been implemented in different programing languages? Exlain why this approach may cause performance problems if there are radical differences between the languages used for object implementation.
Asked by Chula Bella - Tue May 6 19:34:35 2008 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Corba idl will create a standard format to be used between the languages. Thus the definition, offset and orientation of each of the parts is defined by the IDL. Then the IDL compiler will translate that information into the correct structures for each language. This can cause performance hits if the languages (or machines) are of a radically different architecture. Then a lot of time can be lost converting between the two formats.
