What style cell phone is good for an older person?
Q. I got my mom a cell phone about 2 years ago to bring her up to the technology world and finally have a cell phone. I didnt realize when I got her the phone that the numbers are really hard to see and the key pad is really small for her. I have her set up with Alltel and I know she is due for a new phone soon. Can anyone tell me what kind of phone has bigger numbers and a bigger screen to see who is calling?

A. Hi, I looked on the Alltel's website and there isn't that many phones that have big keypad. And the touchscreen phones most are too high tech for older person. from all their phones I think Motorola Krave ZN4 is the better choice. because it's not too high tech, and it has a good size touchscreen keypad, with this type of keypad is a lot easier to see the numbers, because they are big and bright. and they have a clear screen cover build-in. hopefully that help's a bit. P.S. F.Y.I. Alltel is now a part of Verizon Wireless

What cell phone has the easiest to read display outdoors in daylight?
Q. I'm an old guy and am supposed to have very good vision, but still I have serious trouble reading any LCD display in daylight. I've yet to find any reviews that rate the daylight readability of cell phone displays. So, if there are such reviews, I'd like to know where to find them. Otherwise, I'd be happy knowing about similiar personal experiences that might help me find the right cell phone. I'm not looking for anything but basic features.

A. I love my LG 4500 phone. It's got a great screen AND a huge speaker that really makes the sound very clear. It's an older unit, but I'm thru Verizon, and several of the new ones are similar. (and yes let it be text capable, it's amazing how useful this is.) Believe it or not, the basic Kyocera is also a pretty decent phone. Stay away from Samsung. I've found they are mostly junk . Good luck, from another basic user.

What type of cell phone do you suggest for a 13 year old girl?
Q. I want to get a cell phone, but I want something I can show off to my friends. I also want a girly phone that isn't too expensive. I want the phone to look nice, so no phones with like floral patterns on it. I am looking for a phone that is twice as good as an LG Keybo or a Lg Shine. Preferably one that has a keypad for text messaging.

A. The Samsung Eternity is great, but a bit costy. It has a sleek touchscreen with a full keypad on the touch screen, and lets you draw your texts. If you want something cheaper i'll suggest the AT&T Quickfire. The touch screen isn't that great but the keypad is awesome and your friends will be jealous!

Can the Cell Phone company trace where your phone is if somebody calls it ?
Q. I know they can when the phone is turned on... But what about if the Battery is Dead or the Phone is turned off? Like say my phone is turned off and dead somewhere and I call it, during that call can the cell phone company trace the call to where my cell phone might be?
Asked by radioguy078 - Wed May 6 01:32:34 2009 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments
A. With a police order, they can tell you which cell tower the phone is reading off of. But the phone would have to be turned on. GPS locating of the phone is possible IF you have a data plan and a software program to do so. But even then, the phone would have to be on. Yeah, the stuff in the movies is pretty hilariously impossible. Face it: You lost your phone. Call your carrier and tell them it's lost before people find it and start calling Malaysia and you get a $600 phone bill.

What cell phone and service is best for the middle east and all over the world?
Q. I have a friend who is going to get sent to Iraq, and i hear there are cell phones out there that they call "unlocked" that get reception in Iraq. I also heard it depends on the service as well as effectiveness of the phone reception. Anyone know anything about this? Thanks so much.

A. All you need to get is a Quadband phone which should not be network locked (must be unlocked) and he can get a local simcard and use it into the phone, there is nothing more that he needs to be worried about...And if you cant get a Quadband phone then get a triband phone which work on these frequencies (900/1800/1900).

What is the best way to store a cell phone?
Q. I recently purchased a new cell phone. I want to keep my old cell phone around as a backup if my new phone would get damaged, stolen, or lost. (No, I didn't purchase insurance. I'm too cheap!)Should I turn on my old cell phone and completely drain the battery? Should I just disconnect my battery? Should I let a charge on my battery and just keep it connected to my phone? I just want to make sure if I do need to use my old cell phone that it will be there for me. Thanks.
Asked by Steve - Thu Aug 14 18:20:55 2008 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments
A. I would suggest taking your old phone apart and putting each component in an airtight bag. You don't have to take it entirely apart, Just remove the battery. The battery can be stored with a charge, but will most likely lose it after a while. If you keep the battery in a cool place (freezer) they may last a bit longer as well. I would suggest checking up on it every few months to see if the battery has lost its charge. If so then plug it in and then put it back in storage.

How much of a discount do cell phone dealers get when buying phones?
Q. Just wondering how much of a discount do cell phone dealers get when buying phones... I'm debating on buying a new phone with a two year contract with T-Mobile OR finding a cell phone dealer-friend to buy a phone straight from the discounted price. Is the latter more worthy? Any input is greatly appreciated!

A. you are better off buying the phone with the contract also most cell phone companies will still make you have a 2 yr or a 1 yr contract even if you already own the phone. you may want to make sure of this

Do cell phone companies really need to charge so much to make a decent profit?
Q. I was wondering if cell companies charge so much and have so many fees and such long contracts because they have to to make a fair profit and stay in business, or are they making tons of money off the high demand of cell phones. If they do need to charge so much, is it because of poor business practices or why is it? If anyone has studied this or worked close enough with cell phone companies to give an educated answer, I'd sure like to know. Please provide sources and facts (not opinions please). Thanks. I guess I should say I understand that they will charge what the market will bear and as long as we keep paying, they'll keep charging high rates. My question is, at their current spot, does anyone know if they are making large… [cont.]

A. I'm quite certain that your idea of a decent profit & the cell phones companys' idea are vastly different. So long as the consumers are buying the services, the rates will continue to climb. It's all about supply and demand my friend.

Asked by Florin J - Tue Oct 21 01:23:48 2008 - - 6 Answers - 2 Comments
A. You could actually choose a prepaid plan instead of a yearly contract. Most cell phone service providers like T-Mobile, Verizon and AT&T provide prepaid service using which you can use the cell phone service by payment of usage fee beforehand. It offers you the advantage of termination of service whenever you feel like without payment of any termination fee. Check out sites like for more details on service plans of various cell phone service providers.

How do I activate a new phone on my current cell contract?
Q. I am looking at upgrading the cell phone to a Blackberry. If I purchase the phone somewhere else besides my cell phone carrier store, how do I add the phone to the plan? I would like to stop using my old phone and use the new Blackberry instead and simply use the same phone number. How do I change phones?

A. You should just be able to take the phone to the carrier and have them activate it for you. But their could be some issues with software. Because your carrier may sell their Blackberry's with their software.

How can I transfer photos from my cell phone to my computer via Bluetooth?
Q. I have my activation on on my cell phone and my bluetooth is activated on my laptop. I can transfer from my laptop to my cell phone but not from my cell phone to my laptop. My computer says it's receiving and my cell says it's sending but nothing ever transfers - it just stays at 0% the whole time. Can someone help me figure it out?

A. I'm not too sure why this is happening, call your phone manufacturer and ask them if they can trobleshoot the problem for you!
