How does the FAA know when an unsafe condition exists when issuing ADs?
Q. Ok ADs are issued when an unsafe condition exists in a product and the condition is likely to exist or develop in other products of the same type design, and i understand that the Directorate responsible for the product will draft, coordinate, and issue ADs. My question is how does the FAA know that such a condition exist to issue ADs? Thanks!

A. The request can come from almost anywhere. If a manufacturer notices a problem, they can request the FAA issue an AD. The NTSB can make recommendations to the FAA after a crash, incident, or pattern of crashes or incidents. Sometimes, advocacy groups or investigative journalists bring problems to the FAA's attention as well. Sometimes it all occurs inside the FAA. The FAA conducts inspections of maintenance records and aircraft condition. If they notice some issue, they may push it through their own internal process. However, the majority of ADs start out as one or more SDRs, Service Difficulty Reports. 14CFR145 221(a) states "A certificated repair station must report to the FAA within 96 hours after it discovers any serious failure,… [cont.]

How is it possible that karma exists if everyone doesnt recieve what they deserve?
Q. How is karma an existing concept if many people dont get what they deserve?, how is it possible that karma exists if many of the people that are kind to other people on a daily basis are not treated kind or even respected on a daily basis? How is the concept of it logically correct if people are never treated the same way or get what they deserve?, how can it exist if they're given the opposite in return?
Asked by Nerd Pride - Sun Feb 7 22:53:53 2010 - - 9 Answers - 1 Comments
A. Honestly, I have no idea where the idea of karma came from. I think it was some belief in religion, originally. I don't know. But I don't believe karma exists. I think you just get what you get and that's it. Life isn't fair, and sometimes the unfairness is in your favor, or to your disadvantage.

How do we know reality exists before it is discovered?
Q. Was gravity invented or discovered? If you say discovered, how do we know it was pre-existing. And is it possible to be sure it even exists at all. It can be proved pragmatically, in that it works. But what if we were wrong, there was something completely different causing the concept to "work"?

How can I prove that since God is a necessary being, he exists, therefore no perfect fairies exist?
Q. In other words I have to prove why God exists by proving why Goblins, Fairies and such doesn't exist by using necessary and contingent arguments. Like there is a philosopher named Michael Martin, who says that if God exists, than a perfect fairy with perfect must exist too (he is making a parody of God's existence). In my essay I have to prove him wrong.

A. I have met some perfect fairies in my time. I have never met a god or even a minor deity. God like fairies needs us to believe in him for him to exist. That is why Christians clap their hands for God when atheists say there is no God.

What are the formulas of these two compounds? What type of bonding exists in each?
Q. When magnesium metal is burned in air, two different products are made. One is magnesium oxide and the other is magnesium nitride. What are the formulas of these two compounds? What type of bonding exists in each.

A. Using a very fine magnesium wire, the reaction temperature is not very hot and almost all of the magnesium will react with the oxygen. If a ribbon of magnesium metal is burned, the temperature is hotter. Now two reactions are possible. The majority of the magnesium reacts with the oxygen: 2Mg + O2 --> 2MgO A small amount of magnesium will react with the nitrogen in the air to give th nitride: 3Mg + N2--> Mg3N2 Both the oxide and the nitride seem to be ionic in nature. Both react with the water vapor in the air.

Who invented the theory that everything imaginable exists somewhere?
Q. I've often heard the theory that everything imaginable, no matter how make-believe, physically exists somewhere in the known universe. Does anyone know the philosopher who first brought up this theory? I have a feeling that it may have been concieved by a character from a novel. If this is the case, does anyone know which novel and which character? Thanks.

A. It comes from a misunderstanding of infinity, and a belief that the universe is actually infinite. It's not true. If someone actually came up with it as a theory, it was rightfully discarded on the refuse pile of history.

What evidence exists for the intelligent design theory (creationism)?
Q. I am wondering what evidence actually exists for the theory of intelligent design or creationism depending on what you call it. I am pretty set on believing evolution as the correct theory but as an open-minded person would like to know if there is any really credible evidence supporting intelligent design. A. So many people these days are confusing biblical creationism with intelligent design. "Intelligent Design is the study of patterns in nature that are best explained as the result of intelligence" (Dr. William Dembski). That's it; it says nothing of who the creator is and how he/she/it/they did it. Intelligent Design encompasses every "creation" story, even aliens seeding life on this planet. What is the actual evidence that the christian god exists, that christians claim to have but never present?
Q. Posted a few minutes ago: "but there is evidence." Well, what is this evidence? Note: logical fallacies like appeal to ignorance, negative proof/burden of proof, and special pleading are not evidence; neither are quotes from the bible, insults, claims that I already have evidence, personal experiences, self-fulfilling or vague prophecies matched against centuries of history, or anecdotes which have a natural explanation or no supporting evidence. I'm looking for the actual evidence we were told exists. That claim is the reason I'm asking.

How might I be convinced that god exists?
Q. A meaningful answer should take into consideration the following: 1. The Bible does not prove that god exists any more than the Necronomicon proves that Yog-Sothoth exists. Citing the Bible as proof for god's existence is therefore unhelpful. 2. Your personal experiences have no meaning to me. Descriptions of your relationship with god are inherently unconvincing, given my own observations on the subject. My position is that there is likely no god. How might I be convinced otherwise?

A. This question has been worked over by theologians and philosophers for millenia. There are various standard arguments that some people find convincing I don't find any of them convincing. There are ways, however, that I could be convinced, if there were a god and he wanted to convince me of his existence. The resurrected Jesus appeared to hundreds. If he appeared to me, I would be convinced.

If you are good Santa will come but if you are bad he won't. So, if your child has a friend who is very good but the parents are too poor to buy presents how do you explain that situation to your children? What is a good and well thought analogy to help prove that God exists?
Q. I'm a Christian, and at school, for example, I really want to talk to people about God and Christ but I don't always have an hour to sit down and talk to them. Do y'all have any ideas or good analogies to tell someone to help them think and ponder? Sorry if I'm sounding kind of vague. I know it would be very hard to prove that God exists in 2 seconds, but I need something to give them that they can chew on and think about.

A. In order to speak to someone about God, you must first listen. I would encourage you to spend an entire conversation just listening to the person's viewpoints and doing your best to understand where he/ she is coming from. If the other student asks you a question that you don't know the answer to, tell him/ her you will find it out and talk about it again later. After prayer and scripture reading on your own, follow the spirit's leading about what you should say. What someone needs to hear will differ from one person to another, depending on their viewpoints and experiences. If you are sensitive to the Holy Spirit, you can say what the individual needs to hear. After some time has passed, you might wait for it to come up in conversation… [cont.]

Q. What is the reason excess capacity exists in monopolistically competitive markets?
Asked by blaze w - Mon Dec 14 08:02:01 2009 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments
A. There will always be excess capacity in a monopolistic competitive market because the products being sold are differenciated and are not exact substitutes. This differentiation allows producers to retain some control over the price of their product as appossed to the price being set by the exclusively by the market (supply & demand curve). This aspect of monopolistic competitive markets results in market inefficiencies. Producers have the ability to demand an "artificially" high price, resulting in an imperfect supply / demand curve and excess capacity. If the market was truly competitive, output would increase due to the artificially high price, until the market reached an equilibrium between supply and demand.

A. Yeah when I was younger and my grandma was teaching us about GOD. She would always say if you came across a desert and a house was out in the middle of nowhere it didn't get there by itself.

How do I prove to myself that true love exists?
Q. I've been told now multiple times that I'm disillusioned when it comes to love and relationships, and that's why I don't believe that love exists. How could I prove to myself and make myself believe that true love exists? I don't mean the love b/w a parent and a child or between siblings, familial love, etc.

A. Romantic love is nothing more than lust and respect. Find somebody that respects you beyond empty words.

Lucky you. My dream job getting paid to have sex with Friday Night Lights actor Taylor Kitsch neither . exists. , nor is legal. Actually, I suppose it.
