Q. i bought a linksys router today. I installed it, and then it said that i should plug something from my computer to the router, but i dont have any cords in my computer that will fit into the router. Is there any way i can get it to work, or do i have to buy i different router?

A. Along with the information that Dave provided this may also be useful. Check out modifying the firmware of the linksys router. If it's a WRT54G (and other models) there's an open source software package available that'll change the software on the router to give you better control of the bridge. I do warn you, however, that this *could* "brick" (make it useless, like a brick/paperweight) your router if you do it incorrectly. You could have this up and running within a half an hour or so depending on your skill level if you're willing to try it. I've used it quite a few times (7-8) without any problems.

How do I connect my motorola modem to my linksys router?

A. I have the same router and Vista. My computer connects to the router. To answering your question then; I need to know how you are trying to connect your router to your laptop first. But I can offer some suggestions for you to try. First, go to Start, then network, then see if a bar comes down and says that new networks are not visible. If so, enable your computer to search for new networks. If that doesn't work, you may be connecting cables wrong as in putting them in the wrong ports and perhaps you are using a router that is not compatible with laptops. A. 2 routers in series requires special setup call the verizon router #1, and the Linksys #2. Assume #1 is connected to the internet by it's WAN (Internet) port 1) Connect to #1 LAN port, and write down the IP address. You need to know what IP range this router is set for. (ie like 192.168.1.1) 2) make note of the wireless channel in #1, most default to channel 6 3) Connect to #2 LAN port now, and set the IP range to something different (like 192.168.55.1) 4) Set #2 wireless to a different channel, like 1 or 11. Just try those 2 options. Check wireless security settings at same time. 5) Set #2 WAN port to use DHCP 6) Power off #2, plug #2 WAN port into #1 LAN port. Power up #2 That should be it. Good luck.
