How too hook a RCA (Thomson) modem to a westell 327w router?
Q. I have internet service through comcast and I have a RCA (Thomson) DHG535 for the modem which handles VOIP as well. I am trying to use my westell 327w router with the DHG535 but am having problems setting it up. Can someone please walk me through the process?

A. I believe the Westell 327w is a modem/router combo unit. I've never liked the things myself. You may want to check here:

A. Well you can play online without the disc-I did it..just plug an ethernet cord from the router to the ps2 and if you have a newer/better router nothing else will be needed but if you have trouble connecting online you will need the disc which Gamestop probably has to do a manual set up..

RCA DCM305 Modem > Linksys WRT54GS Router > No internet connection?
Q. I am trying to reconnect my XP, Vista, and an Xbox 360 wirelessly to no previle. I am trying to connect my modem to RCA modem to my Linksys Router and I am not getting an internet connection. I can how ever get my local network connected. I used to have the RCA Modem connected to a D-link Wireless Router and it works just fine. I got the new Linksys because I believe that the D-Link rounter is going out on me... So I got the Linksys rounter so that hopefully i could get more bandwith out of it...
Asked by toddr - Mon Jul 23 13:16:47 2007 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments
A. You can't get more bandwith out of the Linksys than the DLink since it's capped by your ISP. Don't have enough info to help you but you can try shutdown both modem and router, plug in the modem first, wait a few minutes and plug in the router, turn on your PC and run the router setup again to see if it works. Check your firewall to make sure you have the right setting since you changed the hardware.

I have a toshiba laptop with a RCA Comcast modem. Just got a linksys n router? Do I need a desktop too?
Q. The laptop only has one Ethernet port as does the modem.
Asked by scottmac - Mon Oct 12 21:43:31 2009 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments
A. No, a laptop is all you need. You will need an ethernet patch cord, your Netgear probably came with 2, one for the WAN port to the modem and the other from the Computer to a LAN port. You will need to physically attach the laptop for initial setup of the wireless connection. After it is configured save the patch cable in case you ever get locked out of the router.

A. Did you plug in the RCA modem into the wireless router? Are you using a laptop to connect to it? Your laptop should automatically detect your wireless router.

Can I connect My cable modem to my linksys router.?
Q. I tried to connect my wireless Linksys router, to my new phone/wired comcast RCA thompson cable modem, so far no results. I'm trying to hook it to the router so I can get my xbox 360 on xbox live again. I tired hooking the Xbox 360 directly too the modem and also tried using the modems wire which seems to be the only one that gives the computer internet also.

A. Connect the cable "modem" ( not really a modem at all ) to the Linksys router. Then turn the power off or disconnect the power cord of the cable "modem" for 5-10 seconds. Turn it back on or reconnect the power. Give the "modem" and the router a minute or two to negotiate the connection. Once all lights are green, you should be able to use the router to connect any compatible device to the Internet.

RCA Cable USB Modem to work with Ethernet Cable?
Q. Hi. I have an rca usb cable Modem, which connects to my pc using a USB cable (duh). Anyway, I got a D-Link Wireless Router, which says I need to connect the modem to the computer with a Ethernet Cable (Which I have). The problem is, when I connect with the Ethernet Cable instead of the USB, the computer does not recognize the modem at all. What settings must I change to get it to recognize the modem? Another note: it did come with a CD-ROM, but that is not helping with this issue. It just says it doesnt recognize an internet connection. Also, the USB wont work with the wirless router, it has to be an ehternet cable. Thus, my problem. :)

A. Connecting your cable modem to the Router 1.Connect modem to your router's WAN/INTERNET port. Plug a PC to one of the LAN ports (don't worry, if you plan to go wireless on all PCs, you can unplu this later. Best to set up router with a wired PC) 2.Look on the front of the router. The following lights should be illuminated: -Power -Ethernet/LAN to where the PC is plugged in -WAN/Internet Link -WLAN or Wireless 3.Hold the Reset button on the router for 30 seconds or more 4.Restart your computer Checking the MAC address of your Computer Please follow these steps from the computer that was connected directly to the internet WITHOUT the router. A. Type your network default gateway ip into a browser address bar and press enter ... the router login window will pop up. Log into your router settings page and disable your wireless security through this browser window. To discover your default gateway ip, type 'ipconfig' into the windows command prompt, and press enter. The default ip for most RCA gateways is: 192.168.100.1 or 192.168.0.1

Router Problem?
Q. I try to play xbox live but it disconnects a lot (especially while playing Halo 3). I ran diagnostics and it said my router was at moderate security. I know having loose security results in the greatest connection and I was wondering if there is any way to set my router to that. It is a RCA and its model number is DCW725. Any help would be appreciated.

A. Just swap your "Linky's wired router"and your "Linky's wireless router". The setup should be very similar. Have your modem connected to the back of the wireless router, and your wired PCs connected to the front connections. You wireless laptops should detect the new wireless network. This is all assuming you have no setup involved. You will probably have to install some software on the laptops and then configure the wireless router security (so not just anybody can get in), but your router's instructions should cover those steps.

How do I hook-up a wireless router to a wired router network that has cable and modem.?
Q. I know less than 0 about networking, networks, LAN's, WAN's, IPS Addresses, etc. so this should be a real challenge for anyone to explain in a step by step manner. I do have 3 old PC's (no wireless cards) hooked to a wired router that share a modem and cable broadband (high-speed) connection. I want to have 2 laptops and any future PC's that will come with a wireless card to work by hooking-up a wireless router to my wired router. 1) Currently I have an RCA Modem 2) Linky's wired router 3) 3 Old PC's without wireless cards. The cable internet connects all of these and works just fine. A) Now I have 2 laptops with wireless cards in each and want to hook-up my new laptops to the internet using my current system - B) I bought a Linky's… [cont.]

A. First, contact your cable provider and ask them what wireless router would be compatible with their service, this first step is very important. Once you have your sevice compatible wireless router I am 100% they will have no issue helping you configure it with your account. cable and dsl wireless routers are not the same.

A. hmmm... first try seeing if moving it closer the router helps ( i assume its wireless) if not wireless check the cables to see if they are fully and tightly fastened if you still have connectivity problems try going to the command prompt by going to- Start>Run>CMD or if you have vista just type CMD into the search menu in the search bar once you have the command prompt fully open try typing this in exactly as i have ping (any site name can go here, just no parenthesis) and press enter you should see your computer trying to communicate with whatever site you are pinging it will also show your current connection status as well or type this in to see whats up with ur ipadress ipconfig /all
