The telephone (from the Greek: τῆλε, tēle, "far" and φωνή, phōnē, "voice"), often colloquially referred to as a phone, is a telecommunications device that transmits and receives sound, most commonly the human voice. Telephones are a point-to-point communication system whose most basic function is to allow two people separated by large distances to talk to one another. It is one of the most common household appliances in the developed world, and has long been considered indispensable to business, industry and government. The word "telephone" has been adapted to many languages and is widely recognized around the world. All telephones have a microphone to speak into, an earphone which reproduces the voice of the other person, a ringer which makes a sound to alert the owner when a call is coming in, and a keypad (or in older phones a telephone dial) to enter the telephone number of the telephone being called. The microphone and earphone are usually built into a handset which is held up to the face to talk. The keypad may be in the handset or in a separate part. A landline telephone is connected by a wire to the telephone network, while a mobile phone or cell phone is portable and communicates with the telephone network by radio. A cordless telephone has a portable handset which communicates by radio with a base station connected by wire to the telephone network, and can only be used within a limited range of the base station. The microphone converts the sound waves to electrical signals, which are sent through the telephone network to the other phone, where they are converted back to sound waves by the earphone in the other phone's handset. Telephones are a duplex communications medium, meaning they allow the people on both ends to talk at once. The telephone network, consisting of a worldwide net of telephone lines, fiberoptic cables, microwave transmission, cellular networks, communications satellites, and undersea telephone cables connected by switching centers, allows any telephone in the world to communicate with any other. Each telephone line has an identifying number called its telephone number. In order to initiate a telephone call, a conversation with another telephone, the user enters the other telephone's number into a numeric keypad on his/her phone. Q. Hi, I have 5 people or more at my house listening to a guy on the telephone speak about things. How do I connect speakers to the telephone so the people can hear it clearer and louder? What to buy? Thanks. Asked by Mike - Sun Feb 17 15:10:16 2008 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments A. Your phone needs to have a speaker phone function or it would need to have a speaker jack plug in (don't think I've ever seen speaker jacks in a phone?). Go out and buy a cheap speaker phone. Asked by Nadav G - Mon Aug 18 11:51:30 2008 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments A. provided you have a cable line in that room you should be fine. i move mine all the time with no problems. the cable company will read it as a modem failure, but unless you move 20-30 times within an hour (causing 20-30 modem failures) they won't call you. Answered by dan - Mon Aug 18 11:56:28 2008 How can I find the telephone number with someones address?
Q. I have a address, I am just wondering how I can find their telephone number with this address in Canada. Asked by Alvan P - Fri Jan 15 23:41:28 2010 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments A. sites will 4 a (nominal fee) provide you with the phone number. Problem is, most people have cell phones. If u can get the name at the address they can get you phone # but it is around $100 USD. other options are to look up address yourself if it is an ownership property, like a house, it has to be registered and paid taxes on - so u find out their name. and one of those sites can give you both landline if possible and cell phone. Youd have to know which province and county to look. Some sites are scams - avoid. Others do theri job.
