A. Each booth has one receiver for the inmate, one for the visitor. They are directly connected to one another, and noone else (unless you count the system, which usually monitors all)...

How can I find a Business/Office Telephones course?
Q. I have almost no experience with business/office telephones. How and where can I go about finding a course that will help me learn how to operate business phones in an office environment. (With real telephones). The community college course I tried was basically only telephone etiquette. It was on a CD Rom and did not involve the use of an actual business/office telephone. Please help.

A. Intern with a company that has a system and get time on it. The only way to get good at phones is to do it alot. Besides, every company seems to have a different phone system so they are all things you need to learn by doing. There are skills that go from one to the other though.

A. Take the telephone off the hook and work out what way the cord is twisted and turn the whole handset (the hand bit, not the telephone itself) around in the other direction. Keep doing it until the cord is untwisted. If the cord looks more twisted than ever, you've gone in the wrong direction, so go in the other direction. Then once you're done, hang up again. It works every time, trust me! You just have to detangle it once in a while :)

How do telephones enable real-time communication?
Q. I have a question about how telephones work. I'm not so curious about how telephones transform the sound into electricity, but rather, how I'm curious as to how telephone signals are able to transfer so quickly such that two people from across the country can have a conversation in real time. How does this work?
Asked by QBert S - Wed Sep 9 02:40:54 2009 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Electronic signals travel at almost the speed of light, 186,000 miles (300,000 km) per second. Sometimes the signals are relayed by satellites 24,000 miles above the earth. That causes a round trip delay of about 1/3 of a second.

Using two telephones in the house without a dial tone?
Q. We have two office style digital telephones we need to use in a large house. We don't pay for phone service, so there is no dial tone, but we need to be able to talk and ring from one phone to another. Is this possible? No outside calls. Just intercom within the house. No manuals for the phone. They are Panasonic digitals from the 90s.

A. office type of phones usuallay need to go thru a phone system... you can connect a 9 volt battery to the circuit to provide the phones with power to talk... or for a more permanent soloution you could wire a 12v transformer like the kind used for your doorbell... as for getting one phone to ring from the other phone, that will be nearly imposible, as ringing current is around 100-110 vac... but barely any amprage... if you connected some type of switch to your house current to get the phone to ring it would proballay damage the insides of the phone, and possibly electricute anyone attempting to touch the phone... the best soloution if you want to communicate between the two phones and have a bell would be to wire cat 5 wire between… [cont.]

A. He's probably referring to a type of intercom system that works as a speakerphone and calls you when someone's at the door, in which case they'll need to program your phone number into the system. The programming involves creating a list of the residents' names and telephone numbers. When a visitor comes into the foyer, they scroll through the list of residents' names, which are shown on a small screen, and choose who they want to visit. The system then places a call to the resident without showing the resident's phone number. When the resident answers, the visitor and the resident can talk to each other and if the resident wants to let them in, they press a button on their phone - usually "9" - to "buzz the visitor in", which also… [cont.]

Q. Because obviously you can't use anything wet, or any kind of spray, as that would damage the electronic bits inside.

A. You need a can of air. They generally sell it in the electronics department near the computers. I know it seems silly to buy a can of air, but it is high pressure air and will blow away any dust in hard to reach nooks and crannies. Also I use rubbing alcohol and a q-tip or a wipe. The Alcohol works because it evaporates leaving no residue

What is the range of the cheapest cordless telephones?
Q. Would they work from one floor to another etc?
Asked by rk =) - Sat Feb 7 09:36:08 2009 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. it would depend on the technology that they use. just about all 900 Mhz phones that I have seen lately are in the $20 range, (they produce the least distance range) BUT I have also seen some 2.4 anf 5.8 Ghz phones with similar prices. While not the best brands, these would provide an extended range over 900 Mhz phones (and increased security) however they would not provide the range that a DECT phone would provide. (have not seen any DECT phonee at budget prices) Any cordless phone on the market should be able to provide sufficient distance to provvide a signal from one floor to another floor of a residential building. depending on what the building is made of, and any other objects that can block the signal, or cause interference.

Asked by JBLEE - Sun May 3 17:42:31 2009 - - 8 Answers - 0 Comments

A. It'd be somewhat different. Many happenings in history were over the telephone and because of the immediate connection that it allowed. Telegraphs, Morse code, letters, took too long, and computers weren't invented yet. Telephones did/does decrease people's connections with each other and was part of the beginning to the start of the technological attack on our humanity, but with science this attack was inevitable, as well was the invention of the telephone. Even without Alexander, someone else would've invented it sooner or later. So, I guess you could also add that we may be a few years behind in technology, but that's a stretch only because with growing societies the need for immediate connection was increasingly important, Alexander… [cont.]
